BREAKING NEWS
DALLAS (AVL) -- A chain of anti-vampire hate crimes has spread across the region, laying waste to neighborhoods across several southern states.
Reports of the mayhem have been flooding in since sunrise, and though the scope of the damage is still coming into focus, it's clear that some sort of organized hate group has coordinated the attacks.
Shortly after dawn in Dallas, a crowd of masked men and women took to the streets of the city's Arts District, defacing a number of vampire-owned galleries and art installations. Simultaneously, a group downtown threw bricks branded with anti-vampire epithets through the windows of an American Vampire League satellite office.
In a handful of cities, crimes ranging from petty vandalism to felony arson have kept police and rescue workers on full alert. One ill-informed attacker's firebombing of a blood bank in Baton Rouge has resulted in a four-alarm fire that continues to rage out of control. In Beaumont, TX, the entire stock of one vampire-owned car dealership was destroyed by crowds wielding crowbars and baseball bats.
Though no injuries have been reported, property damage is already estimated in the millions of dollars, and the psychic damage done to these communities could persist for a very long time. According to Judy Fitzgerald, a FEMA crisis counselor, "The nature of these attacks crimes committed against citizens in their own neighborhoods is pretty indelible. Once someone targets you in your home, it's psychologically difficult to feel safe almost anywhere."
The AVL, in concert with a growing number of aid organizations, has mobilized to provide food and shelter for displaced victims. AVL spokesperson Nan Flanagan, operating from a light-restricted emergency command center in northern Virginia, released this statement:
"Our nation has never seen such a highly orchestrated hate crime, targeting a minority simultaneously across the country. In fact, these attacks are far more reminiscent of Nazi Germany than of anything in our own past. Our hearts go out to those affected, and we also would like to make our position absolutely clear: It is understood that these actions were undertaken by a domestic terrorist organization, and the AVL will leave the investigation to the federal authorities. There will be no vampire response to this tragedy. If we're asked for any assistance, of course we'll cooperate, but this is clearly a matter for law enforcement to handle."
